Fr. Paul's Words of Wisdom
(pay attention - this is important!)

(photo is at Diane's Farm, when he was
catching people off guard by throwing a soft football)
Welcome to the 174th installation of the Weekly eNews of
St. Andrew's Episcopal Church of Pickerington, and Reynoldsburg, Canal Winchester, Carroll, Groveport, Baltimore, Blacklick, Pataskala, Bexley, Columbus and more, leading up to Sunday, February 12, 2012

Don't Forget...

...to join us for refreshments after the 10:00 Sunday service. We have "Coffee Hour" just for you;

...that you can come for a quick snack before Christian Education, or you can linger, meet some new friends, and catch up with old friends,;.

...that after some refreshments at Coffee Hour,
children meet in the church with their teachers to sing and pray and then head to class. Adults continue our study of the history of why we believe what we believe: a history of Christian Theology. The next 3 Sundays we'll cover the 3 pillars of our Faith: without which there would be no Christian Faith: the Trinity, the Incarnation, and the doctrine of Grace;

...that both the Choir and the Wednesday Night Bible Study meet at 6:30 PM on Wednesday;

...AND that Valentine's Day is this coming Tuesday. Whether you have a special honey or not, Tuesday is also a day to give special thanks to God for the people in your life you love and who love you.

Things you probably didn't know...

...with Valentine's Day next week, here are some interesting facts which probably are mostly true. (But if they're on the internet, they MUST be true...)

   Many believe the 'X' symbol became synonymous with the kiss in medieval times. People who couldn't write their names signed in front of a witness with an 'X.' The 'X' was then kissed to show their sincerity
   In the Middle Ages, young men and women drew names from a bowl to see who would be their Valentine. They would wear this name pinned onto their sleeves for one week for everyone to see. This was the origin of the expression "to wear your heart on your sleeve."
   In 1537, England's King Henry VII officially declared February 14th the holiday of St. Valentine's Day.
   Every Valentine's Day, the Italian city of Verona, where Shakespeare's lovers Romeo and Juliet lived, receives about 1,000 letters addressed to Juliet.
   About 3% of pet owners will give Valentine's Day gifts to their pets.
   Teachers will receive the most Valentine's Day cards, followed by children, mothers, wives, sweethearts and pets.

Be sure and say thank you to (a lot of people this week)...

...to Suzanne Steffensen-Ross for organizing the next Foyer Group (parishioners who meet at each other's homes for dinner to get to know one another). We have 10 families in this round. We will start a new round next Fall;

...to Gayland Trim who is organizing the Men's Group to cook for our Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper on February 21st (a week from next Tuesday). Contact Gayland at gaylandtrim@hotmail.com to volunteer;

...Shaun LaDuc and Angie Radivojevic who are organizing our February 29th supper at His Place, likely serving over 100 families for whom a hot nutritious meal is hard to come by. Sign up to volunteer on the sign-up sheet on the narthex (entry) table. We need about 20 volunteers. Financial donations are welcomed and checks can be made out to St. Andrews, with "His Place" in memo line;

...and Kathy Andres who will be leading the next class of Financial Peace University. This next class begins Sunday, March 4th. What you can bring to church this Sunday...

...yourself, an open heart to listen to God's voice and promptings and to enjoy the company of your fellow parishioners

What I can pray for this week

...the many people who volunteer on our PrayerNet ministry to take the time to pray for the prayer requests coming in, and for the members of our Prayer Team who offer themselves to you during Communion at the 10:00 service to pray for your concerns, or the concerns of those you know.
